Kids Sermon 8-23-20

I Will Be Faithful To The End!

Power Verse:
“For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when
we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ.”
- Philippians 3:14

Family Devotion

This week we learned the importance of “faithfulness” and being commit- ted to God till the end. Read 1 Kings 19: 19-21 and 2 Kings 2 together

Ask:
What was the name of the man who was with Elijah?
What did Elisha do when Elijah told him to leave him?
What did Elisha ask for from Elijah?

Say:
Elijah was a faithful follower of God. He was committed to follow God
until the very end. Elisha was also faithful to Elijah and to God. We can
learn a lot from the two of them. Remember, Elijah’s life hadn’t been easy but through it all he was faithful to God.

Ask:
What do you think it means to be “faithful” to God?
How can we be faithful to God in our daily lives?
What type of things do you think distract us from being faithful
and committed to God?

Say:
Just like Elijah, we will have things in our lives that try to distract us from
God. Elijah faced hunger, people trying to kill him, and so many obstacles
that could have kept him from being committed to God. But, through it
all, Elijah continued to love and serve God.

Say:
In the end, just like in our bible story, God rewarded Elijah by taking him
up to Heaven to be with Him. AND, God rewarded Elisha for his faithful- ness too.

Prayer Time:
Talk with your kids about the different things that may be keeping them
from being fully committed to God. Don’t use this as an opportunity to
lecture them, rather let them know you want to help them in their walk
with Christ and do your part to help them to be “faithful” like Elijah. Pray
together as a family!
